Back to the sources of social democracy :
Ferdinand Lassalle

While in the beginning, in the 19th century, the term "social democracy" referred to the parties exhibiting a communist program, afterwards a distinction got established between those who stuck by Marxism and those who transformed themselves progressively into indirect supports of bourgeoisie. At the end social democracy refers to the socialist parties such as the French PS (successor of the SFIO). It is of that social democracy, enemy of the working class, that F. Lassalle is the forerunner.
